2 c flour
11/4 c sugar
1 t baking powder
1 T cinnamon
11/2 t ginger
1/4 t salt
1/2 shortening
1 unbeaten egg
2 T molasses
1 t baking soda dissolved into 1 c buttermilk
1 T butter

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, and salt. Cut in shortening until fine. Remove and set a side 1/2 c flour mixture. Add to flour mixture egg, molasses and buttermilk mixture. Beat for 2 minutes at low speed. Pour into a greased and floured pan. Cut butter into reserved flour mixture. Sprinkle on top of batter. Bake 350º for 30 to 45 minutes. Serve plain or with whipped cream
