1 package active dry yeast
1/4 c warm water
3/4 c milk
2 tbsp butter
1/4 c sugar
1 large egg beaten
1 tsp salt
4 c all purpose flour
3 c oil for frying
1/2 c powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
1. Combine the yeast with the warm water and allow to dissolve for five minutes
2. Combine milk, sugar, egg, salt and yeast in a large mixing bowl.
3. Use an electric mixer on low speed, add the flour 1/2 c at a time until dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
4. Place the dough in a large bowl and cover with plastic wrap for one hour until it doubles in size.
5. Punch the dough down and divide into 3 balls. Roll each ball to 1/4" thickness and cut the dough into 2x2 inch squares.
6. Set on a floured baking sheet and set aside.
7. Heat oil to 375º and 5 or 6 sopapillas at a time. Fry for 30 seconds on each side and sprinkle with powdered sugar or with honey
