Directions:
Scald milk. Stir in sugar, salt and margarine. Cool to luke warm. Into a large warm bowl, put water and add yeast. Stir until dissolved. Add warm milk mixture, eggs and 3 cups of flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough additional flour to make a soft dough. Knead on a lightly floured board about 10 minutes. Place in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled - about 50 minutes. Punch down. Knead in raisins and almonds. Shape dough - roll into long 1 1/2 - 2" thick pieces and braid or shape into a large Christmas tree, laying it back and forth on a large greased cookie sheet. Let rise in a warm place until doubled - about 1 hour. Bake 35 minutes at 375º. Bread will be well browned. You can brush the entire top surface with the browns sugar syrup from hot cross buns when it comes hot out of the oven. When cool it can be drizzled with a glaze of 1 cup powdered sugar and about 1 tbsp water and decorate with halved red and green candied cherries and more almonds.
