1/3 cup plus 1 T vegetable shortening
2-1/2 cups self-rising flour, divided
1 cup milk
Melted butter
*Flour can be substituted by adding 2 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt to regular all purpose flour.

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400. Cut shortening into 2 cups flour; add milk and stir. On a piece of waxed paper, sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup flour. Spoon dough onto waxed paper and knead for 5 minutes. Do9ugh can be rolled and cut or spooned into flour and then patter down onto a greased cookie sheet. If desired, brush tops of unbaked biscuits with a small amount of butter to get golden brown tops. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
