1c. warm water
1 1/2 c. flour
4 tsp.yeast
3/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 whole eggs
1 egg white
4 tsp. lemon rind
2 tbsp. lemon juice
3 1/4 c. flour
5 colored eggs
1 egg yolk

Measure into a large mixing bowl the yeast and warm water. Stir until yeast dissolves. Add flour and stir until smooth. Cover bowl and let stand in a warm place (85-90º) until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
In another bowl add the butter, sugar, salt and eggs.Cream mixture until smooth and fluffy.
Add lemon rind and lemon juice along with the creamed butter and sugar to the yeast mixture. Add enough flour to make a soft dough (3 1/4 c.). Place in a large greased bowl, brush with butter, and cover. Let rise until the bread has doubled in bulk.
Knead dough on floured board. Let dough rest 2 minutes. divide in half and make two ropes 36 inches long. Grease a large cookie sheet.. form loosely braided ring with 5 spaces for eggs. Let dough rise until doubled. Bake at 350 degree ten minutes. Remove bread and brush with egg yolk. Return bread to oven and bake 30 minutes until done.
