1 1/2 cups butter,softened
2 1/2 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
5 large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 cup chopped pecans
Garnish: confectioners sugar:chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 325*. Spray a 12-15 cup fluted pan with nonstick baking spray with flour. In a large bowl,beat butter and sugars at medium speed with an electric mixer until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time,beating well after each addition.
In a medium bowl,combine flour,baking powder, and salt;gradually add to butter mixture,alternately with cream,beginning and ending with flour mixture, beating just until combined. Stir in pecans. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a wooden tooth pick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack. Sift confectioners sugar over cake before serving and garnish with pecans,if desired.
