Pork hocks (alternatively pork shank or bone in roast)
Chopped onions
2 bags green split peas

Directions:
Directions:
Cook pork hock by simmering in a pot of water for about 2 hours. Remove meat and set aside.

Add chopped onions and split peas. Follow cooking directions on the package of peas - simmer almost 2 hours. Be sure to stir frequently when thickens or soup will burn.

Chop the cooled meat and re-add to the soup.

Season to taste.

Note: If using yellow split peas instead of green split peas also add chopped carrots.
