1 cup boiling water
3 squares dark, bitter chocolate
2 cups flour
6 T. butter
2 eggs
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Melt chocolate and butter together. Add the boiling water and mix well. Add sugar. Beat eggs, add them to the mixture and beat well. Add buttermilk and then baking soda. Add flour slowly beating well. Add vanilla and salt. Grease and flour 2 cake pans and pour batter into each. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Let cool and ice with 7 Minute icing and top each layer with coconut.

Seven Minute Icing:
2 egg white
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. corn syrup
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/3 cup cold water
Dash of salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Put everything, except vanilla, into top of double boiler. Mix for 1 minute, then cook over boiling water for 7 minutes until it stands in high peaks. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Beat until it has a spreading consistency.

Lella Belle Hurst married Walter Franklin Horner on October 18, 1896. Lella Belle was born on October 14, 1881 and she passed away on October 1, 1956. Lella Belle and Walter were the parents of 13 children, seven sons and six daughters.

Walter Franklin Horner was born on November 29, 1877 and he passed away on March 27, 1954. Walter Franklin was the son of Robert Carson Horner.
