1/2 lb Kelbasa
1/2 lb hotdogs (optional)
4 strips bacon
1 # sauerkraut
1# Pork and Beans

Directions:
Directions:
In 2-3 quart pot
Dice bacon and fry draining excess grease
Add sauerkraut including juice
Slice kielbasa to desired thickness (1/4") and cut in half
Add kielbasa and beans
Add approximately 1/2 can of water
Bring to low boil and return to simmer for one or more hours maintaining water level. Final product is quite juicy
Optional: slice hotdogs and add with kielbasa
Serve ladled over mashed potatoes or polenta

Recipe can be doubled

This was originally made with just hotdogs and served over polenta. In the 1950s when Grandma and Grandapa Kirn spent less time on the farm, the polenta gave way to mashed potatoes. Kielbasa was introduced in the early 1960's. Mom mixed hotdogs and kilebasa two thereafter. (She always made a point to prepare this at least once during hunting season.) In the 1980's, the hotdogs were periodically removed according to taste. It is still made both with and without.
