Cream the following:

1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg

Combine, then stir into the creamed mixture:

1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt


Stir in 1 cup chips and 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Using parchment paper on the cookie sheet helps them to cook evenly.
Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. The key is to not overcook them.
