1 c. butter, softened
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 c. flour
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. warm water
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each egg.
Add flour alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour. Combine water, cocoa and baking soda, stirring well. Add to flour mixture, beating well.
Add vanilla and mix well.
Pour batter into 2 9" round cake pans or a 9" x 12" cake pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35-38 minutes or until done in middle when tested with toothpick. Cool 10 minutes then remove from pans if you want a double layer cake. Cool layers 10 minutes more.
