Butter Cake:
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
3 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Icing for Butter Cake
2 cups sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup of buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla

Butter Cake:
Cream sugar and butter thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time and beat after each egg added. Add dry ingredients to the butter, alternating with milk. Add vanilla. Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.

Icing for Butter Cake:
Cream sugars with butter. Add buttermilk and cook mixture until a bit of it forms a soft ball when dropped into a cup of cold water. When cooked to this stage, add baking soda and vanilla. Beat until creamy and of the right consistency for spreading on cake. DO NOT BEAT TOO LONG!
