1 package active dry yeast
2 tbsp warm water
5 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
In small bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water, stir to dissolve. In large bowl
combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. With pastry blender or two knives, cut in shortening until mixture until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add reserved yeast mixture and buttermilk. Mix with fork, cover, chill
dough at least 1 hour.
Remove enough dough to make desired number of biscuits.Turn dough onto lightly floured surface, knead 10 times, roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into 2 1/2 inch rounds. Reroll and cut trimmings in rounds with dull edge of knife.
Crease each round to make one side of center, fold larger side over smaller so
edges just meet, pinch well with fingers to seal. Place about 1 inch apart on baking sheet.
Preheat oven to 400'. Bake 15 min. or until golden brown.Remove from baking sheet, serve warm.
