1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
2 c. quick rolled oats
1/2 c. nuts
1/2 c. maraschino cherries

Directions:
Directions:
Bring 1 cup chopped dates, 1/2 c. sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil and let simmer for about 2 minutes. Let stand to cool. Cream together 3/4 cup of Crisco, 1 1/2 cup brown sugar, 3 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir in cooked dates. Sift together 2 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon soda, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon cloves. Fold into batter. Add 2 cups quick rolled oats, 1/2 cup nuts and 1/2 cup maraschino cherries. Bake at 375º for 10-15 minutes.
