1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 T. cider vinegar
1 T. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
2 c. molasses
7 c. flour (plus additional flour for rolling)
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add egg- beat well. Add molasses and vinegar. Sift together the 7 cups of flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture in 3 equal batches mixing well after each addition. Refrigerate mixture just until it is stiff enough to roll and cut. Bake at 350ºF.
