1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
5/6 cup sugar
2 eggs, separated
1 1/4 cup sifted, all-purpose flour
1 cup apricot preserves
1 cup finlely chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend butter, 1/2 cup sugar
and egg yolks together in, a bowl, and then slowly work in
the flour. Lightly flour your hands and pat the mixture
Into a well greased 9 x 13 baking pan, Bake for 15
minutes and remove from oven. Spread the apricot
preserves evenly on top of the mixture. Beat the egg
whites until they are foamy, then gradually beat in
1/3 cup of sugar. Continue beating, until peaks form
and then fold in the walnuts. Carefully spread the egg
white mixture onto the layer of preserves. Bake an
additional 25 minutes. Cool and cut into 16 bars.
