1 C Shortening
1 C Sugar

2 C Flour
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp ground cloves
1/2 C. grated orange rind
1 C pecans or walnuts
1 C raisins.

2 Cups Hot Applesauce

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Shortening and sugar together in a large bowl.
Add dry ingredients, orange rind, nuts and raisins, mix well.
Add boiling hot applesauce, mix well.
Pour into 9 x 13" baking dish and cook at 350º for 1 hour.

My Grandmother, Edith Sublett, made this cake every year at Christmas. It is still one of my favorite desserts.
