2 c. Cake flour ( not standard flour)
1 1/4 c. Sugar
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/3 c. Shortening
1 tsp vanilla
2/3 c. Milk
1 large egg
I square of unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp water

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together cake flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. . Add shortening, vanilla and milk and beat. Then add the large egg and beat once again. Pour one-half of the batter into separate bowl and add melted chocolate, soda and water. Place alternate spoonfuls of batter (chocolate & vanilla) into pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done.

This cake was made many times for us as kids growing up... I think we were always fascinated by the marbled appearance! Must say the recipe left out how long to bake, but you can follow standard time for cakes and use a tooth pick to check to see if done!
