1 1/2 C. White Sugar
1 C. Butter or Shortening
1/2 C. Sour Milk
1 tsp. Baking Soda
2 1/2 - 3 C. Flour

Optional Filling:
3 C. Pitted Honey Dates, diced
1/4 tsp. Salt
2 tbs. Butter
1 C. Boiling Water
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Lemon Juice

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar and butter. Gently blend in sour milk then baking soda. Add flour until mix reaches desired consistency.

Roll thin (about 1/4 in.) and cut as desired. Cook at 325ºF for 10 mins.
Once cooled you can add date filling for a layered date cookie.

For date filling combine dates, salt, butter, and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, and cook until thickened. Stir in vanilla and lemon juice then remove from heat. Let cool slightly before using.

If you are unable to find honeyed dates simply add 3/4 C. brown sugar when cooking.
