Stir together in saucepan:
1/4 cup flour
1 cup sugar
Pour in 2-1/2 cups hot water, stirring all the time. Add juice and grated rind of 1 lemon. Cook until thickened. Season with a dash of salt and nutmeg and 1 Tbsp. butter. Add a few drops yellow food coloring if desired.

Serve warm over pieces of gingerbread.
