2 gal. cucumber slices
1 gal. water
1 pt. salt

24 hours
1 gallon boiling water
2 tbsp. alum

Syrup
8 pt sugar
2 pt. vinegar
1 box pickling spices

Directions:
Directions:
Add boiling water and salt to cucumber slices. Let stand 1 week: stir each day. After this process, drain and add boiling water and alum and let stand 24-48 hours. Drain and make syrup; when sugar is dissolved pour over cucumbers. Drain syrup daily for next 4 days; heat and pour back over cucumbers. The 5th day drain syrup and boil until thick. Pack pickles or relish in jars; pour syrup over and seal.
