2 cups buttermilk
1 tsp soda
1 tsp sugar
3 tsp salt
1/2 c. shortening (melted)
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. cornmeal
1 c. bran flakes
2 c. whole wheat flour
Enough white flour to make a stiff dough

Mix all ingredients together in a mixer. Pinch off small ball of dough. Roll very thin onto cornmeal dusted baking sheet. Using pastry roller to roll from center to edges of baking sheet. Using a pastry cutter, cut dough into desired shapes. Squares or diamonds work well. Using pronged side of a meat tenderizer gently "tenderize" the dough making holes that will keep the dough from puffing up.
Bake at 375 º for 10 - 12 minutes. Cool on cooling rack and transfer to cracker tins. May be frozen. Recipe makes a nice sized batch.
