Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 pint molasses
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 quart walnut meats (1/2 walnuts and 1/2 sliced almonds)
4 tablespoons baking soda
3/4 cup melted shortening or butter
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup sour cream or buttermilk
1-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon allspice
2 eggs
8 cups flour (more or less)
1 cup raisins (currents are better if you can find them)

Directions:
Directions:

Mix molasses, baking soda and sour cream together. Add eggs and shortening then sugar. Mix well. Add nuts and raisins. Sift together flour and remaining spices and add to mixture. Roll out and cut with cookie cutter shapes. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10-15 minutes depending on size of your cookie.

This is a heavy cookie and can be bland. If you prefer more flavor you should add more of the holiday spices. I like to give these cookies a light glaze of frosting with orange flavoring.

Note: This makes a large amount of cookies. You may want to cut the recipe in half.
