"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 egg
1/2 cup crushed crackers or bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 tsp. allspice

3 cups water

3-4 beef bouillon cubes
dash of allspice
salt and pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the top 6 ingredients together in a bowl. If it is too stiff, add a dash of milk, if it's too runny add more crackers. Form small meatballs, about the size of a walnut. Place in a heated frying pan with 1 T. oil in the bottom. Turn the meatballs until browned on all sides. Drain the grease if there is any.

Add 3 cups water, 2 cups milk (or cream if you want it thicker), 3-4 cubes of bouillon, a dash of allspice and salt and pepper. Cover and let simmer for at least 1/2 hour. Remove meatballs and add thickening (flour & milk) to the gravy until thick. Taste for seasoning and adjust accordingly. Return meatballs to the pan until they are reheated. Serve over spaghetti or potatoes.
