Fresh Cranberry Sauce Recipe

1 1/2 c sugar
1 1/2 c water
4 c cranberries (1 lb)
Optional: 1 orange

NOTE: For typical 12 oz bag of cranberries, use 1 cup each of water and sugar.

Directions:
Rinse berries, discard any 'bad' berries.
Combine water and sugar in saucepan, bring to a boil. Add cranberries, return to a boil. Reduce heat and boil gently for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cover and cool completely. Refrigerate.

If using optional orange: Grate orange zest and reserve. Peel orange, roughly chop the flesh (removing any seeds). Add orange flesh and zest with the cranberries
OR: juice the orange and add juice with the water/sugar.
