Directions:
Directions:
Cake - In large bowl cream butter, shortening, and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beat well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. In separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to creamed mix alternating with buttermilk. Beat well. Stir in pecans. Pour into 3 - 9 inch round cake pans. Bake at 350° F for 20-25 minutes. Cool 10 minutes in pan, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Frosting - Mix cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Add sugar. Beat until smooth. Add vanilla. Spread frosting between layers, on sides and top generously. This makes lots of icing so go crazy with it! Sprinkle with pecans. Refrigerate.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
“This is by far the most delicious cake I have ever made. It is huge, so it is great to take to family gatherings. I have omitted the coconut that most Italian cream cakes call for making this my all time favorite and definitely worth the time!” Mindy
