Liquid food coloring (optional)
36 large
marshmallows
1/2 of a 24-ounce package
chocolate- or vanilla-flavored candy coating (6 squares)
small
multicolored decorative candies, finely chopped nuts, toasted coconut, ice cream nut topping, and/or almond toffee pieces (optional)
4 ounces
vanilla- or chocolate-flavored candy coating (2 squares) (optional)

If desired, tint bamboo skewers with liquid food coloring. Thread 2 or 3 marshmallows on each bamboo skewer, leaving no space between them. Set aside.

In a medium saucepan heat the 12 ounces of candy coating over low heat until melted, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Holding a skewer over the saucepan, spoon candy coating over marshmallows, spreading to coat evenly. If desired, sprinkle decorative candies, nuts, coconut, nut topping, and/or toffee pieces evenly over candy-coated marshmallow skewer. Place on waxed paper until set.

Or, if desired, for undecorated candy-coated marshmallows, in a small saucepan heat the 4 ounces of candy coating in a contrasting color over low heat until melted, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Drizzle over assembled skewers.

When set, store in decorative airtight containers at room temperature for up to 1 week. Makes 12 to 18 skewers.
