Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. baking soda
4 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. white sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
1 c. butter
1 egg
1 cup raisins or craisins (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
In a small bowl, blend the sour cream and baking soda; set aside. Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Lightly grease a large baking sheet or cover with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Cut in the butter. Stir the sour cream mixture and egg into the flour mixture until just moistened. Mix in the raisins, if desired. (I usually end up turning the whole mess onto the counter top to complete mixing. I just knead it until it sticks together). Lightly flour surface and knead briefly. Divide dough in half. Roll or pat half the dough into a 3/4-inch thick round. Cut into 12 wedges. Place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown on bottom. Continue with the other half of dough in same manner.
