4 c flour
3 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking soda
6 tbsp butter
1 1/2 dark raisins
1 tbsp caraway seeds
2 eggs
1 1/4 c buttermilk

350 1 hour 20 minutes

grease 2 quart round casserole dish

Mix flour and next 4 ingredients. Cut in butter until resembles coarse crumbs; stir in raisins and caraway seeds. In small bowl beat eggs,slightly. Remove 1 tsp reserve. Stir in butter milk to egg mixture. Stir into flour until flour is moistened.
Turn onto floured board. Knead 10 strokes to mix thoroughly. Shape into ball place in casserole. In center of ball cut 4 in cross 3/4 inch deep. Brush with reserved egg.

Bake 1 hour and 20 minutes. cool in casserole on wire rack 10 minutes; remove from casserole and cool completely.

Try adding 1/2 cup of orange marmalade
