1 pkg or 1 tbsp dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
1/4 c water, warm
2 c milk, scalded
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp shortening
2 tbsp margarine
2 tsp salt
1 c water, luke warm
3 1/2 c all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Combine the teaspoon of sugar in the 1/4 cup of warm water with the yeast. Let stand for about 10 minutes then stir well. Put the rest of the ingredients (except the flour) into a bowl and then add the flour. Mix it around well then add to your yeast mixture. Stir well again. Add another 3 1/2 cups of flour. Add more flour until your dough doesn't stick in the bowl. Put it on a floured surface and knead for approximately 10 minutes. Place bowl in warm place until dough doubles (approx 1 hour). Punch down. Divide into 3 loaves and put in greased pans.Rub vegetable oil on top so they don't stick. When doubled in size, place in 400º oven for approximately 20 minutes or until nicely brown. Rub with margarine for a softer crust.
