4 Squares Hershey's Baking Chocolate
1 Cup Butter
2-1/4 Cup Sugar
1-1/2 Cup Buttermilk or Sour Milk
3 Cups Cake Flour (sifted)
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
5 Eggs (separated)
1 tsp. Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Melt the baking chocolate over simmering water and add to butter and sugar creamed together well. Add buttermilk and flour which has been sifted with the soda, baking powder and salt alternately, then the well-beaten egg yolks, and lastly the whites stiffly whipped, and the vanilla.

Pour into three well-greased and floured 9 inch cake pans.

Bake in moderate oven (350º) for 30-35 minutes. Put together with thick white or chocolate icing.
