Ingredients:
Ingredients:
4 c. raw pinto beans
2 lb. hamburger
2 white onion
3 slices of bacon or a ham bone
2-3 tbsp. gebhardt chili powder

Directions:
Directions:
clean over beans and wash.
place beans in large pot cover with water.
add raw bacon or ham bone.
add whole onion
bring beans to a full boil then turn down to a soft boil.
Boil for 4 hrs. or till beans are soft. (check on beans during cooking time to make sure beans have not run out of water)
when beans are cooked set aside.
cook hamburger and chopped onion add salt to taste.
add chili powder to hamburger and stir letting it cook together for a bit.
take out bacon or ham bone from beans and whole onion.
add hamburger mixture to beans and let simmer.

You can make refried beans from same cooked beans. instead of adding the hamburger mixture leave in whole onion. drain juice (keep juice). with a hand mixer beat beans and onion until smooth. add elpato sauce, cheese and blend. (the refried bean recipe came from Orthella Vaughn many years ago. she is granny norton niece). I have to say this is one of my favorite recipes.
