3/4 cup Butter Flavored Crisco Shortening
1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups uncooked old fashioned oats
1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small sauce pan, soak your raisins on low temp on your stovetop in small amount of water. while your raisins are soaking, combine Criscoİ , brown sugar, egg, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed until well blended. Combine Oats, flour soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Mix into creamed mixture at low speed until just blended. Stir in raisins and a little of the raisin water. Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheets two inches apart. Bake in 350 degree oven 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes and remove to cooling rack.

Mom made the best soft oatmeal cookies in the world. Since she did not leave me that recipe, I have searched all recipes until I found one that came close. I was using butter and margarine as my shortening until I found this Crisco recipe. Then I realized that she would have used lard or Crisco to make cookies! I have "remade" this recipe to make cookies just like Mom. I love you Mom!
