Pastry for 1- 9 inch pie shell or refrigerated pie crust, unbaked
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon grated or ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1- 15 ounce can pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix
1 - 13 ounce can evaporated milk, diluted with 1/3 cup water for extra creamy pie. Do Not Use Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 eggs, beaten well
1/2 cup nuts, chopped fine (Optional)

Mix all ingredients well, adding evaporated milk and eggs last. Pour into pie shell and bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking for another 30-35 minutes, until filling is firm or until a knife inserted in the center of the pie comes out clean.

I'll never forget Mom and Gran's pumpkin pie. Gran gave mom her recipe when she was first married to my dad and she always used that recipe. It has lots of cinnamon and cloves, but you can add or reduce to your own taste.
