4 egg whites beaten stiff.
Add 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar. Gradually add 1 Cup sugar.
Spread in deep 9" pan and bake in slow oven, 270 degrees, for 1 hour.

Beat 4 egg yolks - add 1/2 Cup sugar and 3 tablespoons lemon juice, with 2 teaspoons grated lemon rind. Cook in a double boiler til thick - cool- and whip in 1 1/2 cups of cream.

Spread 1/2 over meringue then spread lemon custard and top with balance of cream.

Stand 24 hours in refrigerator.

Cut in pie shape and serve.
