1 stick unsalted butter
1 C brown sugar
2 T corn syrup or maple syrup
either: 1 large loaf French bread, cut in 1/2" slices OR 12 croissants-sliced lengthwise
2 Granny Smith Apples OR 2 large Peaches - cored & sliced in 1/3" slices
10 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 C milk
1 tsp vanilla
Optional topping: 1/2 C granola OR 1/4 C sugar mixed w 1 T cinnamon

Day Ahead: in saucepan- melt butter. Add brown sugar & syrup. Stir well. Bring to a boil and store again. Pour into 9"X13" baking dish and distribute evenly over bottom.
Arrange sliced fruit over all in slightly overlapping rows. Place the sliced bread or croissants on top of the fruit, fitting it tightly together.
Beat tog: eggs, milk & vanilla. Pour evenly over the bread. Sprinkle granola or sugar/cinnamon mixture on top. Cover w Saran wrap and refrigerate over nite.
Day of Serving: Bake @ 350º for 45 minutes or until puffed and golden.
Cut into squares and invert each serving so that fruit is on top.
Can serve with optional fresh berry sauce
