4 lg. tart apples (Granny Smith are best)
1 recipe plain pastry
1/2 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 c. sugar


1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. flour
1/3 c. butter

Directions:
Directions:
Pare apples, cut into 1/8" slices, arrange in pastry lined pan. Mixed 1/2 c. sugar with cinnamon, sprinkle over apples.

Sift 1/2 c. sugar with flour, cut in butter til crumbly, sprinkle over apples.

Bake in hot oven (400º) 40 to 50 minutes

*I altered the original recipe by squeezing the juice of 1/2 a lemon over the apples before sprinkling the sugar/cinnamon mixture on top.
Mom made her own crust, but I am not quite that domestic so I use frozen pie shells.
