Meat mixture:
1 1/2 lb Ground Beef
1 1/2 lb Italian sausage
1 tsp fennel seed
1 tsp salt
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp pepper

Sauce:
2 large cans tomato paste
1 tomato paste can of water
4 T vinegar
2 T oregano
2 T anise seed
1 T salt
1 Basil leaf and 1 Bay leaf
6 T sugar
1 T garlic salt
1 1/2 tsp pepper
2 loaves french bread

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sauce and meat mixture together in large heavy pan, cook about 20 minutes. Stir to keep from sticking on the bottom; remove the bay leaf before you put the mixture on the bread. Open the 2 loaves of French bread and place the meat and cheese on the bottom and then another layer of cheese and top with the top part of the bread.....wrap in foil. Place the loaves on a cookie sheet and heat in a 400º oven until the cheese has melted
