¾ c. milk
¼ c. butter
3 c. flour
3 tbsp. sugar
½ tsp. salt
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Put ¼ c. melted butter on 2 layers dough. ½ butter on each layer.

FILLING
½ c. sugar
1/3 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. maple extract

GLAZE
1 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. melted butter
1 or 2 tbsp. milk
½ tsp. maple extract

Directions:
Heat milk and butter until very warm in small saucepan. In large bowl, blend warm liquid, 1 c. flour, sugar, salt, yeast, extract and egg at low speed until moistened. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed. By hand, stir in remaining flour to form soft dough. K with knead on floured surface about 2 minutes. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in size, 45 to 60 minutes. In small bowl, combine ingredients for filling, set aside. Grease 12 inch pizza pan. Punch down dough, divide and shape into 3 balls. Roll out 1 ball of dough to cover bottom of pizza pan. Brush dough with 1/3 of melted butter, sprinkle with 1/3 of filling. Repeat with remaining balls. Place a glass (2 inches in diameter) in center of dough, with scissors, cut from outside edge to the glass, forming 16 pie-shaped wedges. Twist each wedge 5 times. Remove glass. Cover, let rise 30-45 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 18-22 minutes. Cool 5 minutes and drizzle glaze over warm coffee cake. Makes one 12-inch coffee cake
