4 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
2 cups shortening
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
4 cups oats
2 tsp vanilla
1 bag (12oz) chocolate chips
1 cup nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Blend shortening and sugar, add egg and beat. Add flour and dry ingredients. Mix well! Add oats, vanilla, chocolate chips and nuts. Drop on to cookie sheet. Bake for 12 minutes.

One Christmas Kelsie and I made such a huge batch of these, we didn't have a mixing bowl big enough and had to use the top of a tupperware cake server. We also melted another bag of chocolate chips and drizzled chocolate on top. They were a huge hit that year!
