1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 ounces red food coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/4 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat over to 350º. Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring. Add paste to the creamed mixture. Add salt to the buttermilk and blend it in the creamed mixture alternating with the flour and ending with flour. Add vanilla and vinegar and soda, folding in and mix smoothly and thoroughly. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
