2 eggs
¾ cup brown sugar
¾ cup molasses
¾ cup oil
2 ½ cups flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons powdered ginger
1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
½ teaspoon cloves
½ teaspoons nutmeg
2 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup boiling water
¾ cup raisins (or more)

Directions:

Add beaten eggs to sugar, molasses and melted shortening (oil).

Mix and sift dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking powder).

Add boiling water and raisins.

Pour into a shallow pan (8x8") which has been greased, and bake in a moderate oven at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.

This is an old family recipe from Mother. Her note to me on it says that it was "Great Grandfather Fornof’s favorite”. I assume she meant her Grandfather Fornof.

This can be served plain, with ice cream, or with a Lemon Sauce (found on page 114 of this book).
