1 lb. butter (must be real butter, not margarine)
2 c. sugar
1 egg
5 c. sifted flour with a sprinkle of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together butter and sugar; add egg; gradually add flour to make a firm dough. Roll to make cylinders 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Chill. Slice 1/8" thick. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350º until golden brown.
