2 c flour
2 c sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3 T cocoa or use 6 T chocolate syrup
1 stick of margarine
1/2 c shortening
1 c water
1/2 c buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
FROSTING: 1 stick of margarine, 3 T cocoa, 6 T milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 c chopped nuts (optional), 1 box powdered sugar

Sift together: flour, sugar, soda and salt. In saucepan, put cocoa, margarine, shortening, and water. Heat just enough to melt margarine and shortening. Pour over dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla. Bake in greased and floured cookie sheet (with rim-batter is thin) at 375º for 20 minutes.
Frosting: Heat margarine, cocoa and milk. Cook slowly for about 1 1/2 minutes. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Pour over warm cake; top with nuts.
