Cookie Dough:
2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. mace
2 c. rolled oats
1 c. light brown sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk

Filler:
1 c. sliced dates
1 c. light brown sugar
1/8 tsp. mace
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 c. water

Directions:
Directions:
Filler: Combine all ingredients and cook over slow fire until paste forms. Set aside to cool and use 1/2 to 1 teaspoonful between cookies. Cookie: Mix shortening, sugar, milk and dry ingredients. Roll 1/8 to 1/4 inch in thickness; cut in strips, 2x4 inches. Place 1 tsp. filler at one end and lap other end of strip over. Pinch together and place on a cookie sheet. Preheat oven; bake at 375º for 12-15 minutes.
