1 1/2 cups butter, softened- not in microwave
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup molasses
4 1/2 cups flour
4 tsp. ground ginger
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup pecans, chopped very fine
3/4 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and molasses. Combine the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves,and salt.; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Fold in pecans.

Shape into 2-in. or smaller balls and roll in sugar. Put on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375º for 11 minutes until tops are cracked. Remove to rack to cool. Makes 8 dozen. Don't flatten the balls before baking. This makes such a big batch that it's fun to give away to others, or freeze some.

Takes awhile to bake this many cookies.. I make them smaller then 2 inch.

This is a winner for our family and those I've given them to. Of course, if you don't like molasses that's another story..
