Ingredients:  
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup boiling water
1 cup chopped dates
1 egg
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp salt
1½ cup flour
1 tbsp melted butter

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve baking soda in water and pour over dates. Cool. Beat egg and gradually add sugar. Add to date mixture, mix well. Stir in nuts, vanilla, salt and flour. Add butter and mix well. Pour into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350ºF for 50-60 min.
