2/3 cup butter
1/8 cup sugar
2 eggs, separated
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1- 1/2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
3/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
1/3 cup cherry or strawberry preserves

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together butter & sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, vanilla, and salt; beat well. Gradually add flour, mixing well. Shape in 3/4 inch balls; dip in slightly beaten egg whites, then roll in finely chopped walnuts. Place one inch apart on greased cookie sheet. Press down center of each with thumb. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 17 mintues. Cool slightly. Remove from pan and cool on rack. Before serving fill centers with dab of jelly.
