1 cup sliced almonds, toasted
3 cups all purpose flour
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
2 cups sugar
3 large eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350º.

Grind 1/2 cup of the toasted almonds and set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar until blended.

Add the eggs and vanilla and almond extracts to the butter mixture and beat until well blended.

Add the flour mixture and beat until well blended.

Mix in the 1/2 cup ground almonds, the toasted almonds and the chocolate chips.

Divide the dough into two equal pieces.

On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, shape each piece into a log that is 2 1/2 inches wide by 14 inches long. Space logs 2 1/2 inches apart on the baking sheet.

Bake until logs feel firm, about 35 minutes. Cool logs on baking sheet for 15 minutes.

Transfer longs to a cutting board using a large spatula. Using a serrated knife, cut the logs into 3/4 inch slices.

Return the slices to the baking sheet, separating them by at least an inch. Bake until firm, about 15 to 20 minutes.
