1/2 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
3 eggs, separated
2 cups cake flour, sifted
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1 cup sour cream

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.

Butter a 9 inch square baking pan and line with parchment paper.

In an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy.

Mix in the egg yolks.

Sift the dry ingredients together. Add half the dry ingredients to the mixer, then half the sour cream, the remaining dry ingredients and the remaining sour cream, blending well between additions.

In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.

Fold egg whites into the batter and pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake for about 50 minutes until set and lightly browned.

Cool on a rack.
